Toronto's Infinity Mirrors Room Is Opening This Spring And It'll Be Better Than Ever

Yayoi Kusama's Infinity Mirrors room is coming to Toronto's AGO this spring.

Back in November, Toronto was delighted to learn that a permanent Yayoi Kusama Infinity Mirrors room was in the works at the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO). After the AGO's successful campaign to secure the funds for the exhibit, they fronted the $2 million and made it official.

The permanent installation is Kusama's "Let's Survive Forever" mirrored room. Her Infinity Mirrors exhibit in Toronto last spring drew unprecedented crowds. As a result, thousands of people never made it off the waitlist to buy tickets and have yet to see the famous mirrors in person.

"Let's Survive Forever" is bigger than many of the existing Infinity Mirror rooms and has never been exhibited in Canada before. It features a massive collection of "mirrored orbs", which are both suspended from the ceiling and arranged on the ground. It's literally an Infinity Mirror room within an Infinity Mirror room - creating a breathtaking illusion of "mirrored orbs" floating in every direction for infinity.

The people of Toronto were able to collectively raise $651,183  - half of the AGO's crowdfunding goal of $1.3 million. The rest was donated by the David Yuile & Mary Elizabeth Hodgson Fund of the AGO Foundation. The room will be a signature work in the AGO collection.
