It's time to get your skates sharpened. The opening date for Toronto's biggest and most magical skating rink was announced for next month, just in time for the holiday season to begin. The best part about it is that skating there is completely free!
The Bentway, under Toronto's infamous Gardiner, announced that their figure eight skating rink is coming back to the city on December 21st, just in time for the holidays. Even better, this year they are also adding a magical winter village to go with it, making it the perfect Christmas destination.
The skating rink is a 1.75 km long trail in the shape of a figure eight, under Toronto's busiest expressway. Located at 250 Fort York Boulevard, the rink is one of Toronto's newest but most exciting holiday destinations.
This will only be the second year for the skating trail to open. Last year over 50,000 came to skate the eight, which even offers skate rentals and lessons. That's not all they offer though.
While part of the Bentway will be taken up with the massive skating trail, the rest of it will transform into an amazing winter village with warming lounges, blankets, and fire pits. The village will also feature lots of amazing food options.
The Bentway also has an art exhibit going on right now that will be extended into the holiday season. Beyond that, they also offer employment opportunities. The Bentway is also hiring rink attendants right now to work at this year's event.
The opening weekend will feature other exciting events that are going to take place from December 21st - 23rd but haven't been announced yet. While the length of the skating season is completely dependent on the weather, last year the rink stayed open until February 28th.
During their opening weekend, their official hours of operation will be between noon and 9 PM for their special programming. More details on the events going on and this year's Bentway skating season will be revealed closer to opening weekend.
