Toronto's Newest Donut Shop Is Actually A Secret Filming Location For Netflix's Newest TV Series

Keep your eyes out for this shop!

If you've been walking on Queen West lately you may have noticed a new donut shop in the plaza across the street from the Gladstone Hotel. If you're anything like me then you probably were crazy hyped because sugary treats are your life.

As a treat connoisseur myself it was a disappointment to find out that "Griddy's Doughnuts" isn't actually functional. Instead, there is actually an awesome reasoning behind why this shop isn't serving fried, sugary snacks to the public.

"Griddy's Doughnuts" is actually a set piece in a new Netflix show called Umbrella Academy. The show itself is based on the comic series under the same name written by Gerard Way. To answer your next question, yes, it is the same Gerard Way that was once the frontman of My Chemical Romance.

The show's story line is an adaptation of the comic's and is based around a dysfunctional family, the Hargreeves. Of course, the twist is that they're all actually superheroes who are working together to solve their father's death which is shrouded in mystery. Just like any good superhero, the Hargreeves children have amazing alias' like  Spaceboy, The Kraken, The Rumor, The Séance, Number Five, The Horror, The Monocle, and The White Violin.

We already know the storyline will be amazing but of course, there are top-notch actors already signed on to film the project. Canadian sweetheart Ellen Page has been confirmed as The White Violin, while Colm Feore, a Stratford Festival regular and Thor villan, has signed on as The Monocle. Tom Hopper is also playing Spaceboy and Robert Sheehan will take on the role of The Séance. Mary J Blige, Kate Walsh, and Mindhunter's Cameron Britton will also be onboard this project.

As for the release date of this up and coming series, all that's confirmed is that it will be out sometime in 2019. Keep your eyes peeled for the premiere and be sure to grab some donuts to celebrate, even if they're not from Griddy's.
