Two New Streaming Services Have Been Announced For Canada
Netflix had better watch their back.
Being Canadians, we know that compared to our American neighbours our streaming services are lacking. Due to Hollywood being American and many of our favourite television series being based in America, sometimes streaming services don't provide them up here in the great white north.
Well, it looks like things are about to change with the introduction of Citytv NOW and the addition of FX Now for Canadian customers. The services will be made available in September of this year.
Heard of "the WOW factor?" Call it "the NOW factor" as #CityTVNow and #FXNow streaming services to launch in Canada in September. Featuring both current seasons of shows and library content. Citytv NOW will provide a mix of drama, comedy and reality tv shows. The streaming service will allow viewers to begin series over again and will allow episodes to become immediately available also.
FX NOW was already created for American subscribers, but the Canadian platform will carry over 500 episodes upon launching. Some of the favourites airing on this platform are shows like American Horror Story, Better Things, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and The Americans.
Rogers Media made the announcement ahead of their "Media Upfront" event in June and promised customers that it will be bringing current and past seasons of Canadians favourite shows. The streaming services will be available online (at and ) and through apps for both Apple and Android phones.
The media company has also confirmed that the services will be set up through digital television boxes for those who have cable. Unfortunately, the new companion streaming apps are only available only for channel subscribers and will be ad-supported.
