The Toronto Maple Leafs will be celebrating today's NHL draft in style. The public party will be hosted at the Ford Fan Zone in Maple Leaf Square tonight, Friday June 26th, starting at 5 p.m with the draft broadcasted on the big screen. 3,000 people are expected to attend the event.
After a rough 2014-2015 season the team can celebrate that their fourth overall pick is the highest selection the franchise has seen since 1989. The Leafs also have the 24th overall pick at the draft, which takes place in Sunrise, Florida.
The best part? fans are privy to a free BBQ (enough for the first 3,000 people) and $5 beers! There will also be games and giveaways including season tickets, $500 dollars to Real Sports, and 1 hour of ice time at the ACC with Wendel Clark; who along with Morgan Rielly and Darryl Sittler will be on hand for this evening's festivities.
“The draft is an integral part of the Leafs’ future success and we’re excited to be sharing this experience with our fans,” explained Toronto Maple Leafs President Brendan Shanahan. “This party is just one small way to show our gratitude to Leafs Nation because we’re not a team without our fans.”
So let's leave the past in the past and look ahead to a fresh new season, shall we? After all, It's pretty hard to be mad at free food and $5 beers on a Friday evening.
