You would think that flight attendants would get paid pretty decently, but apparently the exact opposite is the case. Flight attendants are apparently severely underpaid for the most part.
They make sure you find your seat, they give you that safety instruction lesson where they tell you how to exit the plane in the case of an emergency, and then they look after you as best they can for however many hours the flight is.
Some WestJet flight attendants say they're making less than minimum wage for the hours that they have to work though.
The attendants allege that that they are only paid for the time when the plane leaves, to when it arrives at it's destination.
The airline apparently does not pay the attendants for the time they spend at the airport getting everything ready and cleaning up after a flight. An attendant may have to be at the airport for 4 hours but only be paid for a one hour flight, which sounds suspicious.
Most other airlines apparently do pay their attendants for the time they are at the airport.
According to one union, the way WestJet operates could be violating federal labour laws.
So if you were looking for a flight attendant job at WestJet be forewarned you might not actually be getting as much as someone working at McDonalds per hour.
