Development of the long-awaited spa resort in Whitby is finally underway, and the company behind it has given new details on its progress and expected deadlines.
The Nordik Group, which is based in Quebec, has officially moved forward with the first steps of the project, which involves the demolition of the main building at Whitby's Cullen Central Park. Such will create room for the construction of the spa resort's main building, which will commence in the summer of 2018.
“In order to both prepare the property for construction but also to ensure safety on the premises, we received our licence to demolish the main building at Cullen Garden Park," says a Nordik Group rep. "Please rest assured that the work will be carried out in full compliance with the provincial recommendations on material disposal and recycling.”
Onwers Martin Paquette and Daniel Gringas have also announced that the spa resort will officially be opening in the summer of 2019, and that contractors are confident they will be able to meet that deadline.
The spa resort will span an area of over 385,000 sq. ft. along Taunton Road and will have its thermal facilities open to the public year-round. Dry saunas, steam saunas, saltwater floatation areas, outdoor pools and waterfalls are some of the amenities that will be available. In terms of body treatments, the spa resort will offer a range of massages, facials, wraps and more. There will also be three separate restaurant areas in the venue.
