Toronto's Yorkdale Shopping Centre has had its fair share of renovations in recent years, but it has much bigger and better plans for the mall's future.
The luxury shopping centre has unveiled its long term plans that will seriously alter the landscape of the mall that locals and tourists alike know and love.
Last night, local residents in the mall's vicinity were shown what the future of the mall might look like if all goes to according to plan and is approved by the municipality and its residents.
The new plans proposed by the mall's owners include a boutique hotel and condominiums that would become a part of the Yorkdale Shopping Centre complex, offering world-class luxury and hospitality to tourists and residents of Toronto.
Over the next 10 to 20 years, the mall could be expanding tremendously to include an 8-storey boutique hotel, office buildings, condominiums and new places to dine and shop.
And with the huge success of the grand opening of attractions like The Cheesecake Factory, the mall's owners are looking to capitalize on Yorkdale's popularity as an "entertainment destination centre" for Toronto and York Region.
Oxford Properties, managers and co-owners of Yorkdale, have already started to study infrastructure upgrades to the surrounding area to reduce traffic, which is one of the major concerns and objections to the new proposed plans for the mall.
Over the next year, consultations with members of the community will take place and the process of initiating the project is expected to begin.
