You Can Go License-Free Fishing Across Ontario This Family Day
The event will run from February 17 to 19.
Looking for something fun to do this Family Day? Spend the day fishing at one of Ontario's designated lakes!
Typically, fishers between 18 to 64 would need a valid fishing license to legally fish in Ontario. But from February 17 to 19, 2018, the Ontario Government is holding a family fishing event that allows Canadian residents to fish in province-wide waters without a mandatory fishing license.
"There has never been a better time to introduce a friend to fishing," reads the official event website.
Several events, festivals and workshops are being held across the province on Family Day. Each event offers a great opportunity to spend time with family outdoors while developing "a strong connection with conservation through the enjoyment of fishing." See the full events list here.
Of course, those fishing without a license must still follow the mandatory Conservation fishing limits, which are set out in the Ontario Recreational Fishing Regulations Summary. All other fees will continue to apply during the license-free period.
