The Victoria day long weekend, or May 2-4, as it's been named, is the unofficial start of summer. Congratulations Toronto! You survived the harsh, desolate, barren tundra of winter, and now you're ready to kick off the summer! It's time to relax and/or party and most definitely get day drunk at some point. Here is a list of 11 of the best events going on in Toronto this weekend.
1. Contact Photography Festival // May 21st & 22nd
CONTACT is an annual month-long festival of photography exhibitions and events held throughout the Greater Toronto Area during the month of May. Collaborating with partners at major museums, galleries, organizations, and urban spaces throughout the Greater Toronto Area, CONTACT positions visual art on streets, billboards, and subway platforms, some even suspended from the façades and interiors of buildings.
2. Ashbridges Bay Fireworks // May 23rd
Toronto's ONLY Victoria Day fireworks show will be a spectacular 14-minute display at Ashbridges Bay Park, Ashbridges Bay Park at Coxwell Ave. and the Lakeshore, rain or shine. Be dazzled by this extravagant display of pyrotechnics.
3. Ribs and BBQ Bash // May 2oth - 21st
May is BBQ month and what better way to celebrate our favourite way to cook food than with a massive backyard BBQ at Yonge & Dundas Square. This event will feature the best rib teams in Canada along with bbq foods from many of the cities different cultures!
4. Canadas Wonderland Fireworks // May 22nd
Come celebrate Victoria Day weekend, Canada Day, and Labour Day weekend with some of the best fireworks in the Toronto area! Each show has a unique design with an original sound-track and over 6,000 colourful explosions, you won't want to miss it!
5. Electric Island // May 23rd
Electric Island 2016 - The fully licensed concert and picnic series returns this summer with another 5 events stacked with world class talent. The series launch takes place Victoria Day Weekend Monday at Toronto's Hanlan’s Point! This weekends event includes Sven Vath, Jamie Jones, DJ Tennis and Job Jobse.
6. Electric Elements // May 22nd
Wasaga Beach's annual EDM festival, this year's iteration includes sets by DJ Snake, W&W, Laidback Luke, Don Diablo and Tommy Trash!
7. Toronto Festival of Beers Spring Edition // May 21st-22nd
Located at the Sherbourne Commons, Toronto's festival of beer spring sessions features tonnes of food and breweries so head down, get day drunk, and munch! Isn't that what May 2-4 is all about?
8. The 1975 at Echo Beach // May 20th
This British alt-rock band is taking the stage at Echo Beach Friday at 7 PM.
9. Freedom at Echo Beach // May 22nd
Big name DJs are taking the stage at Echo Beach this long weekend. Freedom includes sets by Kaskade, KSHMR, Cash Cash, Kap Slap, Throttle, and Toronto's very own, Manzone and Strong.
10. Art Fest Toronto // May 21st-23rd
Join us over the May long weekend in Toronto's Historic Distillery District to celebrate painting, photography, sculpture, fine craft, live music and more, from 75 of Canada’s top artists and artisans. Artfest is a family event with music, food and Artfest Kids programming. Free admission, all ages welcome.
11. MACarts Festival // May 21st
