The season for bundling up and venturing out for festive holiday activities is fast approaching, and this massive light display should definitely be at the top of your itinerary. In a small city outside of Toronto, preparations are underway for the breathtaking 25-kilometre holiday lights trail that attracts visitors from all over Ontario.
Starting next month, The Festival of Northern Lights will illuminate the city of Owen Sound using over 400 holiday lights. The city's downtown, boat harbour and surrounding parks will be completely transformed into a holiday wonderland.
The festival begins on Saturday, November 17th with a kickoff fireworks show and opening day street fair. Aside from wandering through the neverending exhibit of holiday magic, you can also catch a horse-drawn sleigh ride, indulge in some delicious food and sip on hot chocolate. Plus, no holiday event would be complete without a massive beautiful Christmas tree, and Owen Sound's annual festival never fails to deliver!
If you have too many things on your holiday agenda, don't worry - the Festival of Northern Lights continues into the new year! Your final chance to see the lights is January 6th, 2019.
The city of Own Sound is only a two-hour drive outside of Toronto. Make a night of it and book a stay in a cozy bed and breakfast, or make the short drive to Blue Mountain for even more winter fun!
