Here’s A Week Long Staycation In Toronto That Won’t Make You Broke

The ultimate bucket list.

So you're broke and can't afford to travel, join the club! Jetting off to Paris, LA, or a beach in Bali are truly dream destinations that we all hope to reach one day. But for now, we have to be smart with our money. It may seem boring to work, live, and play all in one city, all the time, but if you're open to trying new things there's no reason you shouldn't enjoy a week-long staycation right here in Toronto!

Toronto is the biggest, most bustling city in all of Canada and whether you live in a city or town nearby and want to come for a cheap vacation, or you've lived here your whole life and finally want to experience what this city has to offer, you'll be hardpressed not to find some super fun things going on!

This list will cover all the basics a good staycation needs: cafes to get your caffeine pick-me-up, restaurants to fuel up with some good eats, activities to entertain you throughout the day and finally bars and clubs to party at night! If you hit up all, or most of these spots during your week-long staycation the time will fly by.

Cafes For Your Caffeine Fix

Dineen Outpost

Where: 1042 Gerrard St E

@lapetitenoobembedded via

One of my all-time favourite cafes is located in Toronto's best up-and-coming area — Gerrard Village. Here you'll find tons of great restaurants and shops to explore but the best part is clearly this stunning cafe! It's got an upscale vibe to it that will make you feel like you're royalty while you sip your perfectly crafted latte by their big windows. You can also enjoy cookies, cakes or sandwiches while perched in their big sunny windows at a pink marble table!

Versus Coffee

Where: 70 Adelaide St E

@anjalilperiembedded via

This cafe is known for the beautiful lattes crafted with food colouring to give it a unique look! This spot takes latte art up a whole other level and is probably one of the most Instagrammed spots in all of Toronto! I mean, who doesn't love a latte that was literally made for the 'gram? During your staycation, you must stop here to get your caffeine fix and watch the cars pass by on busy Adelaide Street.

Hale Coffee

Where: 300 Campbell Avenue

@mindfullyexponentialembedded via

Hale Coffee Company is a West End gem that you need to discover on your staycation in the city. Their big, industrial-style space is perfect for catching up on emails, enjoying a delicious cup of joe on your own or spending time with close friends. They're known for their cute turquoise cup lids that are perfect for a quick pic!

Activities To Enjoy

Visit the Museum of Illusions

Where: 401 Richmond Street West

This world-renowned museum is officially opening up their permanent Toronto location on October 13th and we can't wait! If you're planning a staycation in the city this fall or winter, you need to add this spot to your list. You can take crazy pictures in their optical illusion rooms and trick all your friends into believing the crazy tricks this museum has in store! They have locations all across Europe and the States so far so you know it's going to be good.

Explore the Spadina Museum

Where: 285 Spadina Rd

@goodasgoldblogembedded via

This stunning historic house and gardens is a lesser-known spot in the city that you must explore on your staycation. Here you can get a glimpse into what life was like in the city during the early 1900s which was when this house was built. You can wander through the greenhouse, chauffer's residence, gardener's cottage, and two-storey garage that are frozen back in time!

Try out the Book Vending Machine at The Monkey's Paw

Where: 1267 Bloor St W

@mahnoorsamanaembedded via

I mean, how often do you actually see a book vending machine lying around? Never, because it's one of a kind! All you have to do here is pay $3 for a token to use the vending machine and it will dispense a completely unique book just for you from the store's very own collection. You never know what you're going to get and that's the fun of it!

This stunning Italian restaurant is located in the hip King West area of Toronto. They offer brunch, lunch and dinner options which makes it super easy for you to decide when you want to hit this spot up. The decor is clearly stunning and you can enjoy mouthwateringly delicious pasta, pizzas, and desserts!

Hanmoto

Where: 2 Lakeview Ave

@evakolenkoembedded via

This is probably one of the coolest late-night eateries in Toronto serving up amazing cocktails and delicious Japanese style snacks. It's a small space but it makes you feel at home with their dim lighting and neon signs. You've got to try their infamous Dyno Wings that are giant chicken wings stuffed with goodness! They're open until 2 a.m. so you can even hit this spot after you go out for drinks.

Chubby's Jamaican Kitchen

Where: 104 Portland St

@architectabroadembedded via

In the mood for amazing Jamaican cuisine, a fun atmosphere, and stunning decor? Look no further than Chubby's Jamaican Kitchen! This spot will make you feel like you were transported to the beaches of Jamaica without ever leaving the city. They have separate lunch, dinner, and cocktail menus with options like jerk chicken, Caribbean stew, pepper shrimp, and more!

Enjoy drinks and games all in one spot at this fun Toronto bar. This rec-room themed hangout has tons of ping pong tables to get competitive at with your friends, good late night snacks and affordable drinks! It's the perfect place to go out if you're not just looking for the typical bar or club in the city.

The Get Well

Where: 1181 Dundas St W

@meganscherfembedded via

This West End bar has seriously got it all! They have a super chill atmosphere, arcade games to keep you entertained and greasy pizza to enjoy with your drinks available inside the bar! There's no need to even leave to grab that midnight slice after you've had a few drinks because it's right there. Play some fun arcade games with friends the rest of the night and your evening out never has to end!

Mahjong Bar

Where: 1276 Dundas St W

@mahjongbarembedded via

Hidden behind an unassuming convenience store is one of Toronto's coolest secret bars. If you haven't had the chance to check this place out, you must! On the outside of the storefront it looks just like a casual convenience store lit up with cool, neon lights but when you walk through the door at the back you'll be transported into another world that serves amazing cocktails, small plates, and a great atmosphere!
