There is nothing better than a trip with your best friend. You can leave the worries of your day-to-day life behind and just spend time with the person you trust most. No boys, no drama, maybe a little bit of wine, and pure bliss.
One thing you may not know is how many secret places in Ontario there are for you to explore with your bestie. From ice caves that will literally have your jaw dropping to cute Yurts in the middle of nowhere, you'll have tons to do.
See below for some of the top places I'll be checking out with my best girlfriend this winter and I suggest you do too.
Northern Bruce Peninsula
Where: Bruce County, Ontario
Why you should go: Located north of Sauble Beach on the Georgian Bay, Northern Bruce Penninsula has become a very popular summer destination for people to check out. However, the real adventure exists during the winter season. Enjoy small cafes in the town and check out these secret cliffs with gigantic icicles hanging off the side. Sorry, but can I just mention how epic this would be for your Instagram feed?
Elora Gorge Conservation Area
Where: Elora, Ontario
Why you should go: Elora is a beautiful place to check out in the winter with your girlfriend and it's sure to keep you busy. With day activities such as cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, and ice fishing you're sure to keep yourself busy! At night? Make sure you check out The Cellar Pub and Grill. I heard it's amazing.
Glamp on 1,000 Islands
Where: Gananoque, Ontario
Why you should go: If this picture doesn't say it all glamping on the 1,000 Islands is the perfect getaway for you and your bestie. Not only are the cabins stunning, but they also have the great nightlife that includes wine bars, taverns, and tapas!
Icewine Fest in Niagara
Where: Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario
Why you should go: Hi! Wine. What else could you possibly need to do with your bestie this winter than enjoy a nice glass of Icewine? How fitting! Visit Niagara-on-the-Lake this January for the Icewine Fest that will feature tons of different vendors serving up some delicious wine...right of the vine.
Devil's Punch Bowl
Where: Stoney Creek, Ontario
Why you should go: Not far from Toronto, this amazing landmark is sure to blow your mind. Check out the Devil's Punch Bowl in Stoney Creek, Ontario this winter to capture a stunning photo of the beauty of Mother Nature. Also, I think this makes the cutest backdrop for a selfie with your bestie.
Where: Ottawa, Ontario
Why you should go: Call me cliche but I think every bestie duo should skate on the Rideau Canal at least one time in their lives. Also, Ottawa is a beautiful city to check out with your girlfriend. There are amazing restaurants, tons to sightsee, and even the parliament building to check out if you're looking to become a bit more educated in Canadian politics.
Where: Thunder Bay, Ontario
Why you should go: Located off the coast of Thunder Bay, Agate Beach is a beautiful and tranquil getaway for besties looking to disconnect with the busyness of life. On top of its stunning scenery, it's also been rated one of the 7 wonders of the world. So make sure you check it out!
Matthew's Maple Syrup
Where: Powassan, Ontario
Why you should go: Do you know what is amazing? Maple syrup. Do you know what is even better? Eating maple syrup with your best friend. This winter run off to Matthew's Maple Syrup in Powassan, Ontario for horse-drawn sleigh rides, maple syrup tours and of course tons of eating sweets!
Where: Muskoka, Ontario
Why you should go: If you haven't taken a photo with your bestie at Cranberry Marsh than you're missing out. Not only can you dive into a massive pool of cranberries, but you can also enjoy skating on an ice trail and sip on some great wine. Check out all the details here.
Where: Kingston, Ontario
Why you should go: Lumina Borealis is one of the most underrated adventures Ontario has to offer. It exists where Lake Ontario meets the St. Lawrence River and is a beautiful light adventure. You'll have the opportunity to walk through the entire display and takes lots of photos with your best friend. Also, there's a ton of different vendors so you can get your snack on!
Where: Scarborough, Ontario
Why you should go: When I moved to Toronto from Vancouver in September I was blown away by the natural beauty of the Scarborough Bluffs. Now, I'm excited to check it out in the winter! It's definitely Instagram worthy!
Torrance Barrens Dark Sky Preserve
Where: Gravenhurst, Ontario
Why you should go: My bestie Halley and I have already packed our bags to go check out the Torrance Barrens Dark Sky Preserve and we suggest you do, too! Only two hours from Toronto, the Torrance Barrens Dark Sky Preserve is one of only 100 Dark Sky Preserves in the world where you get a PERFECT view of outer space.
Where: Huntsville, Ontario
Why you should go: If you and your bestie are looking to get pampered then look no further than Deerhurst Resort. Located in the stunning Muskoka country, you'll have the opportunity to unwind, take in nature and even check out the spa!
Where: Dorion, Ontario
Why you should go: Ouimet Canyon is home to some of Canada's best wildlife and Canada's longest suspension bridge? Did you know that?! In the winter you can escape to the canyon with your bestie to face your fear of ziplining, crossing the suspension bridge, and check out amazing restaurants in the area.
Sleeping Giant Provincial Park
Where: Thunder Bay, Ontario
Why you should go: This winter climb to the top of a cliff with your bestie! Sleeping Giant Provincial Park is home to some of Canada's most beautiful hikes and has great camping spots for you and your girlfriend. How iconic!
Blue Mountain Village
Where: The Blue Mountains, Ontario
Why you should go: I am yet to check out the Blue Mountain Village but it is definitely on my bucket list! With tons of places to eat, ski, snowboard and drink you really can't go wrong! Also, what makes a better best friend trip than taking on the slopes?
Secret Ice Caves Lake Superior
Where: Alona Bay, Ontario
Why you should go: The secret ice caves on Lake Superior broke the internet a few years ago and have become a hot destination for tourists from across the globe. With that in mind, they're the perfect adventure for best friends who want to see what the province has to offer!
Rent a Yurt in Mattawa
Where: Mattawa, Ontario
Why you should go: Yurts have become a very popular adventure option and are totally adorable! In Mattawa alone, there are tons to choose from and many of them even feature indoor fireplaces to keep you and your bestie warm! Follow this link for all the ones you can choose from!
Where: Thunder Bay, Ontario
Why you should go: Kakabeka Falls Provincial Park is an amazing escape for people looking to explore the outdoors and get some exercise. Located just 30 kilometres west of Thunder Bay, there are tons of different trains to hike on! Maybe you and your girlfriend will try snowshoeing?
South Algonquin Trails
Where: Harcourt, Ontario
Why you should go: The South Algonquin Trails in the Algonquin Highlands features scenic horseback riding for any bestie duo! Other activities include skiing, hikes and tons of amazing restaurants to check out!
Limehouse Conservation Area
Where: Halton Hills, Ontario
Why you should go: Limehouse Conservation Area, buried in Halton Hills, features amazing rock fissures that use to one be a limestone mine! Not only is this destination historic for you and your bestie, but also beautiful!
Where: Milton, Ontario
Why you should go: Rattlesnake Point in Milton, Ontario features tons of different activities from skiing to hiking! It's called Rattlesnake Point due to its very windy trails. After you're done skiing for the day, you and your bestie can check out Laconda which is close by for a nice cozy meal!
Fathom Five National Marine Park
Where: Tobermory, Ontario
Why you should go: I saved the best for last! Located in Lake Huron, Fathom Five National Marine Park is over 420 million years old! It features incredible dive sites (yes, you and your bestie can dive in the winter like the guy above) and also incredible trails and shipwrecks for you to explore. Even though going marine diving in the middle of winter may be the most 'extra' thing you and your girlfriend, it definitely will be the best!
