This Saturday, November 12th at the New Castle Motor Sports Park in Indianapolis, there will be a massive lantern festival held for all who can attend. From Toronto, Indianapolis is only an 8 hour drive, which makes it perfectly doable for a weekend trip. Lanterns are currently banned in Toronto and other parts of Ontario, so this is the closest place to experience this magical event! Several locals as well as visitors from outside the state will join together to set the sky aglow with breathtaking, biodegradable lanterns. The festival will also include live music, stage shows, face painters, balloon artists, and lots of food.

Lantern festivals are a traditionally Chinese practice that is celebrated on the first month in the lunisolar Chinese calendar, which marks the final day of Chinese New Year. Historically, the brightest lanterns were symbols of good luck and hope. Nowadays, several people continue the tradition and often dedicate a lantern to loved ones or to the souls of the departed.

Tickets are currently on sale at last call for $45 per adult. If you miss out on this, don't worry - you can also purchase tickets at the venue on the day of the event for $50 per adult. Kids between the ages of 4 to 12 will need to register with a $7 kids pass.

Visitors are allowed to bring coolers, blankets and lawn chairs as the lanterns will only be released at the dark of night. Parking is available at the venue.
