For those of us who live in the GTA, day trips are a pretty common practice.  With so many amazing cities and towns within fairly close proximity, it's hard to say no to a day full of new adventures. Niagara is definitely no exception.

Apart from the obvious tourist attractions like the falls and Clifton hill, Niagara has a whole lot to offers in terms of entertainment.  Whether you're looking to relax, indulge, or explore, Niagara has you covered.

I have compiled a quick list of my favourite things to do in the beautiful city so hopefully, it will help you out on your next day trip!

1. Where to Eat:

Iggy's Pub and Grub // 115 RR 20, Fonthill.

If you're looking for large portions and comfort food, you've found your spot. Iggy's is an awesome restaurant that will fuel you with enough food that will give you energy for your entire day of activities ahead! I recommend this option for those of you who aren't headed straight to the falls, or are trying to avoid tourists.

Gelato di Carlotta // 59 Queen St

This place has some of the best gelato I have ever tried, and yes that includes the stuff from Italy.  If you're looking for a sweet treat while visiting Niagara-on-the-lake, this is your best bet!

Queens Coach // 2845 St Paul Ave.

I have been told that this is some of the best hangover food in Niagara, which, judging by the Instagram tag, I 100% believe. If you're starting your day trip with a hint of a hangover, I suggest hitting up this spot!

2. Where to Party:

Dragonfly // 6380 Fallsview Blvd.

If you're looking for the ultimate clubbing experience, head to Dragonfly. You'll get a similar experience to a Toronto club on Adelaide, but of course in a new city full of new people!

Taps Brewery // 4680 Queen St.

Locals tell me that you go for the beers, and stay for the live music. They also have an unreal spinach dip for any of you that struggle with drunk munchies!

Club Seven // 5400 Robinson St.

On Fridays drinks are $2.75, need I say more?

Where to Indulge:

Reif Estate Winery // 15608 Niagara Pkwy.

If you're looking for some fine wines and beautiful scenery, make the trip to Reif Estate Winery.  This is the perfect excuse to get a little day drunk in a new city!

Pillar and Post // 48 John St W.

Pillar and Post is the ideal spot in Niagara to unwind. This beautiful spa and hotel is the perfect oasis that will keep all of life's stresses at bay.

Tide and Vine Oyster House // 3491 Portage Rd.

When I think of indulging, I automatically think about amazing food. Tide and Vine is the perfect spot to indulge in all types of delicious seafood.

Where to Have Fun:

Jet Boat Tours // 61 Melville St.

Okay, yes this is pricey. But in all honesty, it's one of the most fun ways to spend an afternoon in Niagara.  If you're looking for an adrenaline rush, this is the perfect activity for you. P.S. this is also a super fun date idea!

Clifton Hill

Ah, the ultimate tourist destination.  If you're looking for some cheesy photo ops and guilty pleasure tourist attractions, then this is your spot! Plus, who can say no to Ripleys Believe It Or Not?!

Butterfly Conservatory // 2565 Niagara Pkwy.

The Butterly Conservatory is the perfect place to escape this rainy and cold fall weather. Plus, you'll have endless photo ops of all the beautiful butterflies!

Take a walk beside the falls

The view of the falls is completely priceless. If you've never been I completely suggest visiting at least once, the pictures are nothing like the real thing!

Go window shopping in Niagara-on-the-lake

Niagara-on-the-lake is full of adorable boutiques that are just begging you to come and look around. Even if you're not interested in dropping any money, it's always fun to explore the less mainstream options Niagara-on-the-lake has to offer.

Go hiking along the river

I went for a hike along the river last fall, and it was completely breathtaking. Pro tip: pack a picnic and enjoy lunch on some of the big rocks by the river, you won't be disappointed.
