If you're spending Thanksgiving out of town, consider taking a $15 train ride with the fam on the South Simcoe Railway. This scenic train ride takes you thourgh Beeton Creek Valley, which is a beautful rich neighborhood full with natural scenery and the perfect trees for displaying vibrant, changing leaves. Fall is definitely the most popular season to take train rides and they have rides specifically for fall leaf peeping!
At the South Simcoe Railway, the trip is designed for passengers to take in a completely scenic journey through Beeton Creek inside a classic 1920's passenger coach (it looks like the train from Harry Potter). The train is pulled by a powerful locomotive engine.
Train ride excursions depart from the South Simcoe Railway station in downtown Tottenham, 20 kilometers west of Highway 400 on Highway 9, only 50 minutes north of Toronto. There are four departures each day at 10:30AM, 12PM, 1:30PM and 3PM.
Across the road is a beautiful conservation park where you can picnic, camp, swim as well as peruse the many interesting and friendly local boutiques, shops and restaurants.
This special train also hosts special events like their Haunted Halloween Adventure, which will feature ghosts, pumpkins and lots and lots of candy. (It really DOES remind you of the Harry Potter train, doesn't it?)
This is the South Simcoe Railway's only night time train ride during the year, and during Halloween, it comes alive with sights and sounds of ghosts and goblins. It's fun, festive and definitely not too scary. Passengers are actually encouraged to come in costume and there even prizes to be won.
