A little taste of Europe in the Heartland.

Sitting on the edge of Lake Huron in southwestern Ontario is the quiet town of Goderich, a place where urban and rural elements exist in perfect harmony. It was once described as “the prettiest town in Canada” by Queen Elizabeth due to its charming presence and historic character.

But it wasn’t always like that — on August 21, 2011, Goderich was ravaged by a massive tornado which ripped through the town’s market square. Century-old trees were uprooted from the ground, hundreds of buildings were destroyed, and several people were injured, leaving them with physical scars they would take with them for the rest of their lives.

Over the next few years, the community joined together to rebuild the town, and thanks to their relentless efforts, Goderich is now better than ever.

The restoration is now fully complete — The trees stand tall, the streets are neat, and the town’s iconic octagonal market square is back to its former glory.
