You Can Snowshoe Across A Snow-Covered Suspension Bridge In Ontario This Winter
Take your love of winter to new heights.
Winter isn't so bad once you figure out how to make the most of it! In Ontario, there are plenty of ways to do that; but there's one activity in particular that offers one of the most unique winter experiences in the province.
Scenic Caves Nature Adventures in Collingwood, Ontario is massive facility in northern Ontario that is open all year round, even during the winter season. One of their coolest activities involves snowshoeing across a 420-ft suspension bridge that offers a stunning 10,000-square-kilometre view of the picturesque Georgian Bay. The suspension bridge is part of a larger, 10-km snowshoe trail that winds through a 200-year-old forest of maple beech and oak trees in the Blue Mountains.
The trail contains sections of varying levels of difficulty, making it suitable for both experienced snowshoers or beginners. There's a 1-km stretch of easy trail, 6-km stretches of moderate trails and an expert trail that goes deep into the Collingwood forest. Guided night snowshoe hikes are also available for those looking for even more of a thrill.
Day or half-day passes are required for access to the snow trails within the Scenic Caves grounds. The company suggests participants wear lightweight, flexible hiking boots that cover the ankles. There is also a warm-up chalet, snack bar and change rooms within the facility.
