16 Things To Do If You Only Have 24 Hours In Waskesiu

Loving that lake life.

Who doesn't love lounging at the lake with absolutely zero responsibilities? Mhmm, that's what I thought. It's the best way to soak in the sun and really feel like you're making the most of your summer.

If you can only make it to one lake town this summer for a quick 24 hour trip, make your destination Waskesiu. Waskesiu is oh-so-cute, and the lake town vibe is always bumping, which means you're sure to have an unforgettable 24 hours.

9 AM // Start the morning off with a cinnamon bun from the Waskesiu Trading Company.

The Waskesiu Trading Company is an adorable grocery store in the centre of the town, and they are known for their baked goods! Grab a cinnamon bun and enjoy it outside on a picnic bench before starting the day.

9:30 AM // Hike the Boundary Bog Trail.

Get out for a little morning nature fix! This trail is just outside the townsite, and it will only take 45-60 minutes, depending on how fast you go. It's a good excuse to have more than one cinnamon bun too!

10:30 AM // Shop at little boutiques and clothing stores in the townsite.

Get a little bit of shopping in during the morning. Some places to check out include Outter Limits, At The Beach Fashions, and Lake Life, for all your beach and outdoor needs.

11:30 AM // Lunch at Pete's Terrace.

Enjoy some lunch on the patio at Pete's before you take on the afternoon. They are known for their burgers and pizza, both of which are excellent options!

12:30 PM // Hit the beach!

Spend a few hours in the early afternoon soaking up some sun and working on your tan. The main beach is in the townsite and there are change rooms and picnic stations on site if you need them.

2 PM // Rent a kayak or canoe and get out on the lake.

Just when the weather really starts heating up, rent a kayak, canoe, or paddle board from the Waskesiu Lake Marina. You'll be sure to cool down this way, and you'll have beautiful views of the shore from the water.

3:30 PM // Get your afternoon pick-me-up at Evergreen Coffee & Food.

Grab a coffee, tea, and some delicious baked goods for an afternoon snack at Evergreen. If you need a cool down, enjoy your treats inside, or sit on their patio to keep the tan lines coming.

4 PM // Get a little adventurous at Treeosix Adventure Park.

You had the water to calm you down, and now it's time to heat things up again. At Treeosix you can hit up the climbing wall, do a zipline tour, slackline, or play spikeball — make sure to get a photo of this one!

6 PM // Dinner at Restaurant Pietro. 

Relax on the patio as you enjoy some delicious pasta or steak at this Italian Restaurant. There's even White Chocolate Creme Brulee for dessert!

7:30 PM // Rent a four-wheel bike and cruise around the townsite.

These bikes are a Waskesiu classic, and a must-do during your time there! You can rent them from the Grey Owl Center, and it's a great way to get a different view of the town!

8:30 PM // Ice cream at Big Olaf Sundaes.

After your bike ride, it's time to enjoy another treat! Grab ice cream or a sundae, and savour the evening as you enjoy your dessert. You can walk around while you eat, or sit on the outside patio.

9:30 PM // Enjoy the sunset from the Waskesiu Weir.

Just a brief walk from the townsite and right by the main beach, you'll find the Weir. It's a great spot for photos, and you can sit with your feet in the water as you enjoy the sunset and some peace and quiet.

10:30 PM // Grab a drink at Walleye's.

Walleye's is located at Elk Ridge, in their beautiful wood lodge. Enjoy an evening beer or glass of wine on their patio before you end your day.

11:30 PM // Call it a night at Elk Ridge Resort.

You've had a jam-packed day and you deserve a good night's sleep! Relax at Elk Ridge in one of their beautiful cabins, which are surrounded by nature and will give you the perfect lake life vibe.

8 AM // Enjoy gorgeous views with breakfast at the Golf Course.

The Golf Course serves up breakfast at their Clubhouse, complete with Eggs Benny, French Toast, and Breakfast Poutine. If you have time, do a little walk by the course as well for one last nature fix.

9 AM // Stock up on candy for the drive home at Pine and Fancy.

In the Waskesiu townsite, you'll find Pine and Fancy Sweet Memories, a delicious gourmet candy shop. This is a great choice for a last stop as you get ready to say goodbye.

Bonus: Evergreen is right next door if you want coffee for the drive home too!
