It may have been raining all May Long weekend here in Calgary, but that doesn't mean you won't have plenty of opportunities coming up this summer to sip on some patio drinks! One of the best parts of this city are all the patio options, but of course, a lot of the best ones are usually packed full, especially on a hot summer day!

If you're hoping to find a new favourite hangout this summer, here are some of our favourite hidden Calgary patios:

Container Bar

Where: 1131 Kensington Rd NW

Container Bar is located in the quaint and cozy neighbourhood of Kensington. It's quite literally hidden, located in an actual shipping container! It's dog-friendly, so your furry friend can tag along while you and your crew sip on some drinks and enjoy some tasty food.

River Cafe

Where: 25 Prince's Island

If something a bit more boujee is more your style, the River Cafe in Prince's Island Park is the place to go! It's beautifully lit with twinkly lights, and the location in the park will make you feel as though you've been transported to a hidden forest. It's a great place for a romantic date, or to celebrate a birthday!

The Guild

Where: 200 8 Ave SW

You've probably walked past The Guild a million times while exploring Stephen Avenue, but have you ever taken the time to sit back and enjoy a few drinks on the patio? It's the prime spot for people watching, and again, dog-friendly! Even if you don't have a pup of your own, it's a great place to spot some.

Vin Room West

Where: 8561 8A Ave SW

Calgary's Vin Room West is THE spot for any would be wine connoisseurs to go. Not only is their wine selection killer, but they've also got a great selection of tapas and small plates for you to munch on while you enjoy a glass (or three) of Moscato.

Where: 813 1 Ave NE

Need a haircut? They've got that. How about a bite to eat? They've got that too! And a patio to enjoy a few drinks on? They've definitely got that! Cannibale is the perfect place to go for a totally relaxing summer day, right here in YYC!

Pig & Duke

Where: 2 locations in Calgary

Amazing food, games, great cocktails, and a perfect patio are all thing that you can find at both Pig & Duke locations. One restaurant is located on 12th Ave, and the other on 4th, so you're never too far from a great meal with friends this summer.

Bonterra Trattoria

Where: 1016 8 St SW

You may not be able to afford that trip to Italy QUITE yet, but a day spent on Bonterra Trattoria's beautiful patio terrace might make you feel like you're there (or at least kind of). The spot is known for its awesome Italian cuisine, delectable desserts, and all around friendly service.

Saltlik Steakhouse

Where: 101 8 Ave SW

If you don't want to have a BBQ at home, why not spice things up and head out for a fancy dinner at Saltlik? The steakhouse is one of the best you'll find in the city (they've also got a location in Banff if you take a trip to the mountains and are in need of a good meal). Menu items are a bit more expensive, but every review says they're worth every last penny.

Broken City

Where: 613 11 Ave SW

Broken City is known as the spot where hipsters hang out, so if you want to fit in with the hip crowd, you'll definitely want to check it out. Its rooftop patio is a great place to hang out on summer afternoons, and in the evenings they often host events supporting local bands, or just play hip hop music.

The Nash

Where: 925 11 St SE

Brunch, anyone? The Nash was formerly a hotel in the 1900s, but has since been converted into a trendy restaurant that never disappoints. They're known for their unique twists on Canadian cuisine, and amazing cocktails, of course!

Blanco Cantina

Where: 723 17 Ave SW

If you're a fan of tequila, you're going to want to pay a visit to Blanco Cantina. It's located right on 17th Ave, as so many of Calgary's trendiest restaurants are. The interior makes for a perfect Instagram shot, and the patio provides you with an awesome spot to catch up with old friends in between tasty tacos and shots.

Oak Tree Tavern

Where: 124 10 St NW #2

Oak Tree Tavern is another Kensington favourite. Their menu is full of delicious pub favourites, and even includes plenty of vegan options! The patio is cozy and well shaded, but still provides great views of the neighbourhood around for all your people-watching needs.
