12 Calgary Patios That Are Total Staples For Summer

Warmer temperatures are finally here, and we're excited as HECK. It's got us dreaming of sunny summer afternoons on the patio, but you know what? Why dream when you can go and experience it? Yes! Patio season is here and it's time for you to get out on the town, bask in the sun, and start sippin' on refreshing drinks with friends.

For all you university folk who are finishing up exams, this is the perfect opportunity for you to go celebrate, so why not get a tan on a patio while you do it? Slather on some sunscreen and grab those sunglasses, it's patio season.

Here's a list of 12 Calgary patios that you definitely need to hit up this summer:

1. National

Where: 550 17 Ave SW

National is definitely a staple summer patio. Their 17th Ave location is definitely one of the most popular, and is a great place to not only have a few drinks with friends, but also people watch. Our recommendation: their chicken nuggets with clive sauce is so fricken tasty.

2. Julio's Barrio

Where: 1110 Memorial Drive NW

Although Julio's Barrio serves up summer all year round with their zesty Mexican food, they do it especially well on their rooftop patio in the warmer months. Our recommendation: You haven't truly been to JB's without having a their original "Bulldog".

3. charbar

Where: Simmons Building, 618 Confluence Way SE

Located in the historic Simmons Building beside The Bow, this rooftop patio definitely has the best views. Their Argentinian cuisine is to die for, and their selections of wine and cocktails are extensive. Our recommendation: their wood-fire grilled 9 spice half chicken.

4. Cleaver

Where: 524 17 Ave SW

If you haven't heard of Cleaver, you need to reevaluate your life (or if you need to catch up, look at this). Their cocktails are EPIC, their food is unreal, and they have a gorgeous patio to enjoy it all. Our recommendation: any of their drinks, but especially their Caesar or their "Cleaver Believer".

5. National Beer Garden

Where: 225 8 Ave SW

An entire rooftop patio dedicated to all things beer? Count us in. With an endless selection of beers, other drinks, and tasty snacks, this place is the perfect spot to bring a whole gang of friends. Our recommendation: get a flight of beer so you can try a bunch of different brews, it's the perfect place to find your new fav!

6. Container Bar

Where: 1131 Kensington Rd. NW

This unique patio in Kensington is so quirky and cute that it might just be your next go-to place for an afternoon refresher. It has a hole-in-the-wall vibe and we're confident that all of your friends will be wondering where the heck this hidden gem is. Our recommendation: any of their slush cocktails (perfect drink to beat the summer heat).

7. Vin Room West

Where: 8561 8A Ave SW

The only thing better than a patio is a dog-friendly patio. Just picture yourself sipping on a bougie glass of wine with your gal pals, whilst goggling over the adorable doggos and puppers sitting nicely beside their owners. Our recommendation: build your own charcuterie platter for the perfect appetizer to go with your wine.

8. Ship & Anchor Pub

Where: 534 17 Ave SW

This low-key watering hole offering casual bar fare, sports on TV & occasional live music, plus - and most importantly - the perfect patio to soak up the summer sun. Our recommendation: their Loaded Ship Burger is the perfect meal to accompany a good cold beer.

9. 1410 World Bier Haus

Where: 1410 17 Ave SW

Okay I think we can all agree that rooftop patios are simply better than any other kind of patio. This upbeat sports bar is the perfect place to kick back with your crew and enjoy a couple drinks in the sun. Don't forget your sunscreen for this place. Our recommendation: their Mediterranean Steak Flatbread is fricken unreal.

10. Original Joe's

Where: 1220 Kensington Rd NW

This patio is a classic summer staple where you can get a tasty, filling meal while also relaxing with a drink. They also serve weekend brunch, which is the perfect excuse to relax outside with a caesar before noon. Our recommendation: their Truffle Parmesan Potato Chips are totally unique and so yummy.

11. Cannibale

Where: 813 1 Ave NE

This place has everything. Need a haircut? They can do that. Need a bit to eat? They can do that. Need a drink? They can definitely do that. Need a cozy, beautifully lighted patio to spend your Friday night? This is the place for you. Our recommendation: their Remember The Maine drink is not only a great name, but also super delicious.

12. Oak Tree Tavern

Where: 124 10 St NW

This hidden deck on 10th Street is the perfect place to sip on a cold drink while watching the sunset. Grab your pals and set up camp for the evening on the patio, while munching on some pub grub. Our recommendation: this is probably the only place you can order Dill Pickle Soup (and it's served with garlic toast too).
