When you think of Alberta, the first thing that comes to mind is probably mountains. Second is probably Stampede. It's not until way down the list that you think of sunny beaches to waste away the summer days. But hey, just because we don't have the white sandy beaches of Cuba doesn't mean we don't have some quality lakes to catch some rays at!
Here is a list of 12 Alberta beaches that you need to make your way to this summer. Grab your BFFS, grab the sunscreen, and grab the flamingo pool floatie that is totally original and no one else in the world has. It's time to soak up summer!
Although this is one of the more well known beaches, it is totally worth the road trip. It's less than an hour away from Edmonton, and will satisfy that beach craving you've been having all spring.
Roughly a three hour drive from Calgary, this beach has plenty of sand for you to sprawl out with your beach towel and throw around a frisbee. You can also take a walk on the rocky bit of the shoreline if you're WILD.
If the above photo doesn't make you want to head to this lake for a beach sunset, I don't know what will. Located about halfway between Calgary and Edmonton, you can even work it into your road trip plans!
This is the perfect beach to go to if you're looking for something right in Calgary. It's located in Fish Creek Provincial Park, and is the perfect way to spend those hot summer afternoons (as long as you don't mind a bit of a crowd).
Aspen Beach Provincial Park
Just north of Red Deer, Aspen Beach Provincial Park offers its goers a sprawling Ontario-like sandy beach. The calm and shallow waters are perfect for those who just like to wade in a little bit to cool off.
Ma Me O Beach
Me oh my, Ma Me O beach is gorgeous! This spot is just an hour away from Edmonton and will provide you with the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of city living.
This beach boasts beautiful blue waters that are perfect for your Instagram. Although the shoreline is more driftwood and rocks than white and sandy, once you're out on the lake in a floaty or boat it won't even matter. Plus its only an hour away from Calgary!
If you prefer a soft and sandy beach this is where you need to head. Floatingstone Lake is a two hour drive from Edmonton, but is the perfect summer road trip to take with your friends if you're in need of some vitamin D.
This little-known beach is perfect for those who don't like a crowd. It's way up north, about a 3 hour drive from Edmonton, but hey! You have plenty of time to make that trip, just bring the right tunes and it will totally fly by.
Pigeon Lake is the perfect summer oasis, and doesn't even look like Alberta it's so beach-y! It's just over an hour southwest of Edmonton, so you could even jet out after work and catch the sunset!
This spot was named one of Canada's top 25 beaches, so you know you're in for an awesome day when you head here. It offers a splash park, beach volleyball courts, a children’s playground, a concession stand, and the occasional live performance too!
Lake Annette Beach
Nestled in Jasper National Park, this spot has not only has a sandy beach and calm waters, but also has stunning views of the surrounding mountains. If I were to choose one beach to road trip to this summer, I would totally choose this one.
