We've all been there. The weather is nice, you got ready for no apparent reason, you're in a great mood, and you want to get out of the house and do something. You hit up every last one of your friends, trying to make plans, but every last one of them shoots you down.

Sometimes life gets in the way, we all have different work and school schedules, other commitments, other friends, significant others, the list goes on and on. Don't worry though, there's plenty that you can do on your own without your friends!

Next time you're all alone and in the mood for adventure, don't fret. This list offers just a few suggestions on super fun things you can do around YYC while solo! We've got everything from bookstores to workout spots, so no matter what you're into, you'll never be bored.

1. Catch a film at the Plaza Theatre

This one might seem scary, but there's totally no shame in going to a movie by yourself! You're just in the dark eating popcorn anyways, so who needs company!? The Plaza Theatre in Kensington is always showing super cool alternative films for you to enjoy, and they're not too pricey either!

2. Take yourself on a dinner date

Going out to eat by yourself can be pretty nerve-wracking, but once you get past your fear, it's actually pretty nice to enjoy a meal by yourself! Take yourself somewhere boujee so you can dress up, or go for a more low-key spot where you can chill and be comfy!

3. Explore the exhibits at the Glenbow

If art is your thing, the Glenbow is a great place to spend a day! They've always got something new going on, and are in a prime location downtown for some more exploring afterwards! If you're on a tight budget, you can visit the museum for free on the first Thursday of every month from 5 - 9 p.m.

4. Treat yourself to a spa day

Spa days with the girls are a great bonding experience, but if all of your friends are busy, or keep flaking, then you can always go solo! Go get your hair done, maybe grab a mani/pedi, or go all out with a massage! Whatever you choose will have you feeling totally refreshed and confident.

5. Spend the day reading at Owl's Nest Books

If you live in Calgary, love to read, and haven't yet paid a visit to Owl's Nest Books, then you need to go ASAP. This adorable independent bookstore has an amazing selection; hours will pass by while you're browsing through the titles and you won't even notice.

6. Sing some karaoke at Ducky's Pub

If you're bored on a Friday night, and feeling extra fearless then you should totally make a trip to Ducky's on 4th and bust out a tune! Whether you're good or bad, you'll definitely have a great time, make tons of memories, and be laughing all night long. It's also a great spot to mingle and make new friends!
