Calgary's Glow Festival Is A Massive Free Light Party That Magically Lights Up The City

When the sun goes down, the lights turn on. Calgary's Glow Festival is back this February and it's the city's favourite winter lights festival because it's totally free. No matter how cold it is, Calgarians will brave it to catch a glimpse of the magical light installations that make downtown look like a dreamscape.

Over three nights, the festival will showcase interactive light installations made by artists plus food, drinks, and more ways to have fun out in the cold.

If you're totally stuck on what to do on Valentine's Day this year, then you should plan to drop by this winter festival with your s/o.

Even if you already have dinner plans, you can go for a romantic walk together through a downtown that's been transformed with lights.

Plus, there's an illuminated ice slide you can ride down and an "Ice Lounge" where you can get a cheeky drink to help you warm up after.

This year, there are also outdoor ice patios, ice sculptures, and live music. It's a full-on festival and one of the last fun nights out in the winter before spring comes.

2020 will mark the festival's third edition. Last year, the artists' work was insane and we think this year will be just as good — if not better.

We can't wait to see what kinds of trippy light art comes to the city this year.

Imagine sipping drinks at the beer garden before getting toasty again inside a warming igloo so you can check out all the Instagrammable light displays.

Glow will take over 8th Avenue/Stephen Avenue right downtown from 3rd Street S.W. to 1st Street S.E.

Each of the four blocks of the festival will be filled with activities, secret pop-up ice patios, fire pits, and a ton of lights to brighten up the city.
