Whether you like to lace up hockey skates or figure skates, getting out on the ice is one of the best perks of winter. Calgary's outdoor ice rink at Olympic Placa is about to open, which is something of an unofficial start to the holiday season in the city. Best of all, you'll be able to grab free skate rentals to kick off winter.
The rink will officially open for the season on Wednesday, November 20.
While the iconic rink is always free, you usually have to either bring your own skates or pay for a rental.
But since it's Grey Cup weekend, they'll be celebrating with free skate rentals over three days making this experience totally free for one weekend.
There's even a special Grey Cup logo painted underneath the ice right now just for the occasion. Grey Cup weekend will be crazy in Calgary and this is a chill way to join in the fun.
Ice skating is definitely high on our Alberta winter bucket list this year.
Why not take advantage of the rink's opening and skate for free? That leaves you more money for important things like adventures and brunch.
