In Alberta, it can be hard to find vegan options. It is, after all, ranch land and Alberta has the most beef in all of Canada. Plus, you can get a massive 5LBS of poutine in Calgary. Despite its meaty reputation, there's a flourishing vegan scene in Calgary and you can check it out at VegFest this spring!
This is the only 100% vegan food and lifestyle event in the city and it's basically heaven for those who live a more plant-based lifestyle. There's so much to check out here in addition to the amazing vegan treats and eats. Expect beer gardens, live music, art installations, vendors and talks from some vegan industry experts.
If you can't wait until the festival later this spring to indulge in vegan eats, then you can check out YYC Vegan Week coming up in May where you can try vegan eats at some of your favourite restaurants around Calgary. It'll get you in the mood for this epic vegan festival coming up!
From burgers and poutine to tacos and ice cream, there's going to be a ton of food. Plus, just because the food is vegan doesn't mean it's going to be all salads and healthy stuff. There's plenty of tasty, decadent, calorific food and it's all guilt-free since no animals were harmed in the making!
The 3rd Annual VegFest Calgary is happening on Saturday, June 15 from 12 PM to 8 PM at Shaw Millennium Park. It's totally free to attend but they will be accepting donations for admission costs at the entrance.
