Who else loves noodles with an excessive, long pull? It's not only a great way to showoff the immensity of the dish, but it's also great for snapping photos and getting a satisfying slurrrrp from the bowl.
At Sandong Banjom Restaurant in Calgary, they serve delicious Korean-style black bean sauce noodles in a mega large bowl. In Korea, they call it Jajangmyeon, which is a Korean Chinese noodle dish that's topped with thick sauce made from chunjang, diced pork and an assortment of vegetables.
You can really see the thickness and tender juiciness of their noodle pulls from IG-Tasters. The noodles tend to be so long that the servers actually drop off scissors along with traditional chopsticks (you'll need them to cut the noodles, you'll thank them later).
Their mega size portion is only $18.99 and can feed probably a small family of three! Talk about a steal. If you consider the mega size bowl to be too large for you, you can opt for a half & half option, a serving of black bean noodles and spicy seafood noodle soup. This is also a great option for food-lovers who cannot handle too much spice.
Although this Restaurant is a Korean restaurant, it offers authentic Korean-Chinese fusion dishes-- which is why you'll find many Chinese style dishes with a Korean mix. Since it's not the typical Korean cuisines you normally see, they don't offer Korean BBQ or Hot Pot. The restaurant specializes in noodle and rice dishes, as well as meat dishes.
Sandong Banjom is located inside a little strip mall shared with a convenience store. It is a quaint little shop, definitely not a restuarant that looks like La Palma, but this small shop is always loaded with people eating and reviews show that they are quick to seat guests and staff is super friendly. For a restaurant that can easily feed two people for under $30 is pretty amazing.
They tend to get busy during the weekends but they provide free parking (may be limited during busy hours). They are located at 3803 26 Avenue SW in Calgary, Alberta. They are open from 1130am until 10pm everyday.
