New Calgary Library Ranked One Of The Greatest Places In The Entire World

Each year, TIME Magazine releases a list of iconic places that they have deemed to be the greatest in the world. A pretty flashy list to be included in, indeed. Well, we're proud to announce that the Calgary Central Library has been named in TIME's World's 100 Greatest Places of 2019.

TIME's list highlights a vast variety of places in three different categories: Places to visit, places to stay, and places to eat & drink. Calgary's new and impressive library landed in the 'places to visit' category among parks, museums, natural wonders, and even a couple of other libraries.

If you live in Calgary or have spent time in the city, there's a good chance you've visited the library already. We'd be shocked if you don't agree that the Central Library is pretty great. Really great, actually. Greatest in the world, to be exact.

The only other Canadian spot to top Time's list was Canada's Wonderland. Ontario's gigantic amusement park was named one of the greatest place in the world that you need to visit.

The beautiful building, designed by the Norwegian firm Snohetta, is like nothing you’ve seen before. The aesthetic is an ode to the beautiful natural terrain in the region.

The walls are made from British Columbia cedar and the curved lines meant to depict cloud arches formed by Alberta’s Chinook winds. On top of its gorgeous design, the library is home to an impressive collection of over 450,000 books.

In addition to its beautiful architecture and extensive reading selection, it's also making quite a reputation for itself as an event center, educational space, and so much more. The library offers residencies and even has a digital production studio for recording podcasts and vlogs. Fusing old and new, digital and analog, this really is one of the greatest places on earth.

The Calgary Central Library is located at 800 3 St. SE, Calgary, Alberta. The library officially opened last year on Nov. 1, 2018.

The Calgary Central Library earned on spot on TIME's list along with some other very remarkable places. For example,  Iceland’s Geosea Geothermal Sea Baths, Chad’s Zakouma National Park, Red Sea Mountain Trail in Egypt, and so much more.

In terms of places to stay, TIME highlighted places in Bhutan, Uruguay, Bolivia, Italy, and more. Last but not least, under places to eat & drink, we’ve got immensely notable hot-spots in Mexico, Norway, South Africa, and all around the globe.

If you’re looking to do, see, eat some of the greatest things in the world, you know where to look. This list is filled with nothing short of groundbreaking and we’re proud an Albertan treasure has been featured.
