It will now be more difficult to get your hands on Canada Goose's well-known winter coats. According to a report by Retail Insider, the brand has stopped selling its products at several Canadian stores. The latest store to be impacted was Simons.
They report that, at the department store's flagship location in Montreal, the Canada Goose section is already empty.
Meanwhile, employees of the retailer's location in Alberta's West Edmonton Mall revealed that Canada Goose products would no longer be distributed by the chain. However, it appears it wasn't Simons' decision to cut out the coats.
Retail Insider writes that the decision for Canada Goose to pull out of these stores seems to be part of a business strategy that the company has been taking on for the past few years.
In 2016, the company opened its own store in Toronto and has since opened 20 stores worldwide, including seven in Canada, where they sell their own merchandise.
However, this move may have an effect on Simons' revenues.
According to Retail Insider, the sale of Canada Goose coats brought in “tens of millions of dollars” per year to fashion retailer.
La Presse also reported that Simons was not the only retailer to be shunned by Canada Goose.
Other spots like the Sportium and SAIL stores have also seen coats disappear from their shelves.
According to the president of the two chains, Norman Décarie, Canada Goose said that the stores no longer "matched the image" of their brand.
The same thing happened to Sports Experts and Atmosphere. The company pulled its products from these stores two years ago.
In some provinces, this will seriously limit where you can buy these coats. In Quebec, for example, Canada Goose is now only available in Montreal.
In addition to the flagship store at the corner of Peel and Sainte-Catherine, the brand is now sold at only seven retailers, all based in the metropolitan area.
Those locations are the U & I Boutique, Harry Rosen, Holt Renfrew, Influence U and Sporting Life. The coats can also be found on the Altitude Sports online store, while the Taglin company specializes in promotional products.
