Health Canada Issues First Serious Vape Warning After Multiple Deaths In The U.S.

Health Canada is warning about the risks associated with vaping in a new advisory. The Canada vaping advisory comes after a confirmed death and multiple reported illnesses related to vaping in the U.S. The government agency is urging Canadians to be cautious about using vaping products and seek medical attention if they have concerns.

Health Canada released an advisory on Wednesday, about vaping and vaping products, telling Canadians to monitor their health if they use vaping products.

The new warning is a result of two deaths and multiple cases of pulmonary illness in the U.S. possibly linked to vaping as reported by U.S. government agencies on Aug. 30.

Health Canada reports that no similar cases have been seen in Canada but in the U.S. there have been 215 possible cases of pulmonary illness as of Aug. 27 in 25 states. Canadians are now being asked to exercise caution when using vaping products and seek immediate medical attention if they are worried about their health.

"Vaping is not without risk, and the potential long-term effects of vaping remain unknown," said Health Canada in the warning.

When talking about vaping in the warning, Health Canada refers to nicotine and cannabis vaping that uses an electronic product.

Health Canada is also reminding Canadians that buying vaping products that are not sold legally can have added risks "as these products are unregulated and potentially unsafe, and thereby pose a risk to health and safety."

According to Health Canada, symptoms of pulmonary illness include coughing, shortness of breath and chest pain. They advise that if you vape to watch out for these symptoms.

If you're concerned about the risks of vaping, the advisory suggests not vaping at all. But if you currently use or have once used vaping products you're being asked to monitor your health. Also, don't modify your vaping products or add any substance to it that wasn't meant to be there.

Seek medical attention if you're concerned about your health as a result of vaping.
