Canada's Best Vegetarian Restaurants Are Mostly In Ontario & BC

For veggies, vegans and general-plant-lovers, Canada is a great country to live in. Plant-based goodies are now more accessible than ever, and are even available in most of the country’s fast-food joints! However, for those special-occasion nights out that have you wanting to get a little more bougie, OpenTable have compiled a list of Canada’s Top 50 Vegetarian Restaurants around the country, and some of them sound pretty incredible!

When it comes to the vegetarian/vegan scene, OpenTable’s list seems to suggest that Ontario and B.C. are definitely dominating the game. Of the 50 Canadian restaurants on the list, a whopping 32 were based in Ontario, with 14 in Toronto alone! Furthermore, an additional nine of Canada’s best were in B.C., leaving only 15 ‘top 50’ restaurants across the whole of the rest of the country!

To compile their list of the best veggie-joints in the country, OpenTable considered venues from across nine provinces, and took into consideration more than 500,000 verified reviews.

If you’re outside of Ontario and B.C., don’t worry. Here’s a look at some of the highlights from across the rest of the country, which could be a little closer to home.

Damas - Montreal

Damas Restaurant in Montreal’s Mile End promises their guests “authentic flavours of Syria in the heart of Montreal.” While OpenTable gives the venue a price point of $$$$ (which means pretty pricey!), their delicious Syrian cuisine is probably worth saving up for.

While the restaurant is not strictly vegetarian, their veggie and vegan options are top-notch, making it the perfect date-night for any carnivore/herbivore combinations!

Donna Mac - Calgary

For any Albertans looking for their veggie-fix, Donna Mac in downtown Calgary is one of the best of the best. Offering Canadian cuisine that “focuses on local and resourceful ingredients,” they describe their menu as “vegetable forward.”

While they do their best to accommodate everyone, making a reservation is always recommended, as this veggie-paradise is often fully booked!

EVOO in the Courtyard - St. John's

Over in Newfoundland and Labrador, the EVOO in the Courtyard restaurant offers authentic mediterrenean cuisine, at pretty reasonable prices.

Their Insta-worthy dishes are totally vegetarian-friendly, and they even offer 2-4-1 pizzas between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. every single day.

Isaac's Way - Fredricton

Isaac's Way in New Brunswick describes themselves as a "casual eatery with globally inspired farm-to-table eats."

The natural vibe and the reasonable prices make Isaac's Way a great stop for a veggie lunch, and their unique art for sale even benefits charity, so there's good karma all around.

Pineridge Hollow - Oakbank

If you're in the Manitoba/Winnipeg area, get your Instagram ready for Pineridge Hollow in Oakbank. This bougie AF destination will provide the most beautiful photo opportunities while serving up some veggie-deliciousness.

The experience is nowhere near as expensive as it looks, and OpenTable has listed their vegetarian food as one of the best-of-the-best.

Open Sesame - Calgary

For Calgarians looking to try DIY stir-fry, this is the spot for you. Open Sesame offers their guests the opportunity to make their own stir-fry in their restaurant, which makes it a truly one-of-a-kind experience.

Naturally, the venue has plenty of excellent veg-friendly options, so it's the perfect spot for an unusual lunch!

The Canteen on Portland - Dartmouth

If you’re based in Nova Scotia, The Canteen on Portland is the best place you can go for great food and an abundance of vegetarian options.

According to OpenTable’s list, the venue is recommended by 99% of customers and is the best location overall in Atlantic Canada. Their farm-to-table cuisine is the epitome of excellence, and customers just can’t seem to get enough.
