Meet your queen of the north! Canada’s Drag Race is just months away from making its extravagant debut and fans finally got their first look. Premiering in the summer of 2020, Toronto native and judge Brooke Lynn Hytes promised Entertainment Weekly the show will be “unapologetically Canadian.” It was first announced that Canada would be getting it’s very own spin-off show back in June of 2019.Hytes alongside UnREAL actor Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman and model Stacey McKenzie got the stamp of approval from RuPaul himself in a September Bell Media press release, “I'm thrilled to reveal my hand-picked judges for Canada’s Drag Race. By the power vested in me, I command them to go forth and be my ‘Judge Judys’ of the North.”

The icon finished by saying, “I have complete confidence in their ability to choose Canada’s first drag superstar!”

Hytes recently discussed the exciting first season with Entertainment Weekly. The judge is no stranger to the competitive world. She was, after all, the runner up on season 11 of RuPaul’s Drag Race. However, she believes her experience helped her become a better candidate for the "queen of the north" position, “A good piece of advice I’ve been given about judging is to always try to see yourself in the contestants, and that was easy for me because I’ve been there, done that!"

She’s also incredibly excited to bring this new world to Canada, “There are no big goals like RuPaul’s Drag Race in Canada unless you move to the States and uproot your whole life, but now there’s something for queens in Canada to strive for, and motivation is so important.”While Canadians are known for their politeness and generosity, Hytes assured viewers they're still in for the “drama” that comes along with the race. She described the contestants as a “quiet storm” and said, “Canada’s got it going on. We’re a sleeping beauty, and we’re waking up.”

Canada’s Drag Race is set to premiere summer 2020 on the streaming service Crave.
