Canadian Feral Hogs Are Illegally Immigrating To The US

Back in August, a Twitter conversation went viral when an Arkansas native asked the internet how he would be expected to deal with the “30-50 feral hogs” that ran in his backyard, if stronger gun control was implemented in the U.S. Just a short month later, the internet is obsessing over wild hogs for the second time, but this time it’s because Canada’s feral pigs are literally escaping into America.
It seems like the Arkansas Twitter user's genuine feral hog concerns could actually materialize, as Canada's wild pigs are now on the loose, and it appears they're heading to Montana!
According to reports from CTV News, wildlife officials in Montana have discovered several of Canada’s feral hogs encroaching into their northern border, which is causing concern for local farmers. The hogs can spread disease to local livestock and also ravage fields for food, completely destroying the terrain.
While only 8 pigs have been discovered just north of the Montana border, much less than the 30-50 hogs from the viral tweet, the internet has been making comparisons to the hilarious Twitter trend.

The original viral tweet came back in early August as part of a conversation about gun control in the US. When Alabama singer Jason Isbell tweeted to say that nobody in the country ‘needed’ an assault weapon, one Twitter user was quick to respond, saying “Legit question for rural Americans - How do I kill the 30-50 feral hogs that run into my yard within 3-5 mins while my small kids play?”
Now, with a number of feral hogs invading the US from Canada, the threat of 30-50 feral hogs is appearing more real and people can't help but reference the viral tweet.

One Canadian Twitter user joked, ““Do what you can America, our invasion force is 30-50 strong!”
While another added, “Good lord he was right, after all, the 30-50 feral hogs are coming and they are out for the blood of small children playing in their yards.”

While the whole 30-50 feral hogs sensation is pretty hilarious, the Montana Invasive Species Council is actually pretty concerned about the Canadian pigs that have entered the United States. According to CTV News, the pigs have the potential to do widespread damage, due to their natural ‘rooting’ and ‘wallowing.’
Various state groups are believed to be in the process of finding preventative management measures to deal with Canada’s wild hogs, but in the meantime, let’s hope they stay well away from any yards with children in!
