Over the years, a good number of Canadian rappers have established themselves, including Toronto’s own Drake and Tory Lanez. Although the two reportedly had beef with one another back in the day, they’ve since made up and have developed a pretty adorable bond between them.
According to The Fader, Drake first recognized Lanez on his track “Summer Sixteen” a few years back. People believed that the line “All you boys in the new Toronto want to be me a little” was referencing Lanez’s mixtape titled The New Toronto.
The Fader also reported that Drake’s song was a diss track directed towards Meek Mill. Shortly after its release, Meek responded with “War Paint,” which called Drizzy out for his comments towards Lanez with the line “Tory from The Six you hatin’ on him, Lord knows.”
In a 2019 interview with Nick Cannon on Power 106 Los Angeles, the “Freaky” singer addressed the rough history with his fellow Canadian and admitted that although he regrets the beef, he’s also grateful for some of the things that came out of it.
“I have a following of people that are like ‘Yo, you’re the one guy who didn’t come up with the Drake co-sign and you’re also the one person that [told him] f*ck you,’” Lanez explained to Cannon.
It seems as though the two Toronto stars have learned how to love one another and share the 6ix though, as they regularly joke with one another in their Instagram comments.
“The man got his ears pierced and don’t know how to act ..... in two months cuz gone have the CAMRONS 😂🤣😂🤣,” Lanez teased Drake on a post from earlier this year.
“@torylanez k lo k maaaaami aye aye ayeeee,” Drizzy replied, referencing Lanez’s song “K LO K”.
“Youuuuuuuu reaaaaady...D*mn you really got on the funky town clunkers...these Parliament Funk a*s shoes...these Gene Simmons Kiss a*s shoes...these Gothic Babe Hot Topic a*s shoes,” the “God’s Plan” singer commented on the above photo from Lanez’s IG last year.
The two have come a long way from dissing one another on tracks — now they just do it on social media. We have yet to receive a collab from the 6ix God and his pal, but with Drake reportedly dropping a new album this year, anything can happen.
