The City of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan declared a state of emergency on the evening of Monday, May 17 due to a wildfire just outside of the area.
Evacuation orders were issued and 28 evacuees spent the night in hotels last night, according to a news release on Tuesday. "There are no reported homes lost as of this morning. City of Prince Albert Fire Fighters are focusing on protecting structures within the City limits," said the release.
It outlined the status of the fire as "not contained," noting that "It is approximately the size of 40 square kilometers."
As for the imacted areas, "A SaskAlert was issued for residents to evacuate within the areas north of Highway 55, east of Cloverdale Road and west of the Honeymoon Road. Highway 55 East has been closed at the Prince Albert off ramp and Pulp Haul Road from Whitestar Road to Hwy 55 junction. Residents are urged to avoid the area."
