Swiss Chalet and Harvey's were a staple for a lot of Canadians growing up. From family dinners to grabbing lunch before a hockey tournament, every Canadian has had a meal at both chains at least once in their life. Though many Canadians believe that they've both seen a serious decline in popularity as of late.

The debate began when Reddit user Scottie3Hottie posted a lengthy post about both chains with the title "Seriously... Why is everybody obsessed with Swiss Chalet and Harvey's?" The user claims that Harvey's is extremely overpriced and that Swiss Chalet's food options are incredibly generic.

Canadians quickly chimed in, many of them echoing their frustration with both franchises and admitting they haven't eaten there in years. Others, on the other hand, claimed they still love the restaurants for the nostalgia:

Clearly, Canadians are pretty divided on the subject but it's safe to say that Swiss Chalet and Harvey's definitely aren't as popular as they used to be. With new restaurants and food joints popping up faster than most people can keep up, it can be easy to forget about plainer restaurants such as Swiss Chalet and Harvey's.

It isn't just Canadians thinking the restaurants are declining, either. Both Swiss Chalet and Harvey's have suffered in the past few years under the Cara branch along with other restaurants in the past few years, according to Cision. So much so that Cara is dedicating a large sum of money to renovating locations, enhancing the customer experience and also revamping their menus. Which explains why both Swiss Chalet and Harvey's have been changing up their menus so frequently.

Even with the changes, the two chains have become more about nostalgia than the actual food itself, considering so many Canadians grew up on quarter chicken dinners and Harvey's burgers. So it's no surprise that the older crowd continues to show up while younger fast-food customers only visit every so often. But, the Reddit debate has made us realize that it's about time to revisit the spots for a little trip down memory lane!
