On the morning of April 15, 2019, the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris was reportedly engulfed in flames as onlookers watched in horror. This world-famous cathedral is located on the Île de la Cité, is in Paris' 4th arrondissement and is regarded as a historical and religious landmark. Since the fire, many people have been posting their reactions on social media. Now, Canadians are sharing their condolences amidst the Notre Dame Cathedral Fire in Paris. 

Devastated onlookers and tourists witnessed a moment in history on the morning of April 15, 2019, as the Norte Dame Cathedral went up in flames. According to videos and pictures posted online, the roof of the building was entirely engulfed in flames. Up until the time of publication, firefighters and first responders remain on scene.  

This centuries-old cathedral was constructed back in the 13th century. It is currently regarded as both a historical and cultural landmark in Paris. According to CNN, there are over 13 million visitors annually to the cathedral. Visitors travel far and wide to visit the cathedral as both a religious and historical experience. 

Since the fire started, people all around the world have been sharing their condolences with Paris. Canadians, in particular, are sympathetic to this loss and have been sharing their thoughts and memories on Twitter.

Once news about the fire hit, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was fast to publically send out his condolences on Twitter. “Canadians are thinking of our friends in France as you fight this devastating fire,” wrote Trudeau. As of publishing time, that tweet has over 950 retweets, 5,500 shares, and 120 comments.

Alongside the Prime Minister, thousands of Canadians continue to share their heartache with Paris. Many people are sad to see such a well known historical landmark destroyed. 

Hugs from Canada🇨🇦💔 I’ve been there twice, and though I’m not a religious person it was an incredibly example of beautiful architecture. Truly devastating. Glad to hear no one was inside. Stay safe firefighters.
