Catherine O'Hara In Home Alone Is Not The Only Production She's Known For

The Canadian actress has a seriously impressive resume.

Actors can play a large variety of characters throughout their careers, but there's usually one or two roles that really define them and sticks in the memory of their fans. For example, many people know Catherine O'Hara in Home Alone better than any other part she's ever played.

The original Home Alone movie came out in 1990 and starred her as Kate McCallister, the mother of young Kevin. This may be one of the actress's best-known roles, but it definitely wasn't her first.

The 65-year-old star was born in Toronto, Ontario, and started acting after being hired as a waitress at the city's Second City Improv Theatre, according to Notable Biographies.

O'Hara eventually joined the comedy troupe as an understudy for Gilda Radner, and in 1976, she began appearing on Canada's version of Saturday Night LiveSecond City TV.

The Canadian actress's first film credit came in 1980 when she played the role of Audrey in Double Negative. After a few more roles, the actress caught the attention of legendary director Tim Burton, who cast her in the 1988 classic Beetlejuice as Delia Deetz.

After that came a few more films until finally, she got what many consider to be her "big break" with her role in the Christmas classic Home Alone.

Notable Biographies lists some of O'Hara's other most noteworthy credits as Waiting for GuffmanFor Your Consideration, and Lemony Snickett's A Series of Unfortunate Events.

It was actually her role in Waiting for Guffman that launched the star's long-lasting professional relationship with fellow Canadian actor Eugene Levy, who plays her on-screen husband in the iconic series Schitt's Creek.

In the hit series, O'Hara plays Moira, the mother of the once rich Rose family whose life quickly falls to shambles when they're forced to move to a small town. Her work on the series has earned her an astounding four Canadian Screen Awards for Best Lead Actress in a Comedy Series.

She may already have built an impressive resume, but it doesn't look like she will be stopping anytime soon. Be sure to catch her in the premiere of the final season of Schitt's Creek on January 7.
