If you can think way back to 2016, you may remember just how tense the world felt during the U.S. Presidental election. Democrats and Republicans don't agree on much, but the two candidates chosen to represent each party, Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, really didn't agree on anything - to be honest, it made the world seem like a pretty scary place. Many celebrities put their support fully behind Clinton, not only because she's a Democrat, but also because they wanted to see a woman in the oval office for the first time ever. Clinton supporters didn't want to think about the possibility of losing, but they knew they had to have a game plan if Trump won, and for some of them, it involved moving. Here are seven celebrities who love Canada so much they want to move here.
Of course, not all the celebs on this list want to move solely for political reasons - some of them actually just love Canada so much that they want to build a life, a house, and raise their families here. We already have our share of amazing homegrown stars that we adore, but we all know that Canadians will never say no to expanding our celebrity family.
One of the most recent celebrities to hop on the Canada band-wagon is none other than Aaron Carter. The singer claims to have purchased a "castle" in Nova Scotia over the weekend, although nothing has been confirmed yet.
Whether Carter ends up moving to Yarmouth full time or not, one thing's for sure - Canada definitely has his heart.
When Donald Trump was not quite a President and just a Presidential candidate, Chelsea Handler was one of the many celebrities who announced they'd be leaving the country if he made it into the white house.
Handler's first plan was to move to her house in Spain, with Canada as a backup plan. "The whole country of Canada is underrated, so we should all probably be living there anyway," Handler said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight.
Back in 2018, the iconic rapper Snoop Dogg announced that he wanted to move to Canada and become an official citizen. He planned to have everything organized by January of 2019, and although his plan didn't exactly work out, Snoop still has a lot of love for Canada.
Rosie O'Donnell has never been one to shy away from sharing her opinions, and her feelings about President Donald Trump are no exception. When the former reality TV star was elected into office, O'Donnell joined the long list of celebs who planned to pack up and move up north.
"Me and Drake are gonna be neighbours if Donald Trump becomes President," the singer said. "The unfortunate thing about this planet is that we are in no shortage of ignorance, at all."
Perhaps one of the most outspoken people when it comes to their opinions would have to be Miley Cyrus, and that's exactly why we love her so much. One thing Cyrus felt very strongly about was that Trump should not be elected, and she said that if he was, she would be leaving the U.S.
Eventually, Cyrus realized that abandoning her country in a time of need was not a good idea, and so she chose to stay, and fight loudly for what she believes in.
On an episode of The Bestseller Experiment podcast, Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston admitted that he, like many of his Hollywood friends, would be making the trek up north should Trump make it into office.
Unfortunately for Canadians everywhere, Cranston has not mentioned the idea again since the election ended, so it looks like he'll be staying put for now.
