“Cheer Squad” On Netflix Is The Canadian Version Of “Cheer”
Even if you never got the chance to be an athlete in high school, you can still live vicariously through one of the many docu-series' about talented young up and comers. Most recently, a documentary called Cheer on Netflix has been making a lot of waves online. As it turns out, there's a Canadian version of the show called Cheer Squad that people also love.
If you've logged onto the streaming service over the past week, you may have noticed a new show called Cheer that's been trending. The docu-series follows Navarro College's 14-time national championship-winning cheer squad in Corsicana, Texas.
Over the course of six-hour-long episodes, you're introduced to the cheerleaders, as well as head coach Monica Aldama as they practice ruthlessly in preparation to hopefully take home yet another national championship.
Cheer only came out a week ago, but the show has managed to score a rating of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, and many Netflix users are absolutely obsessed with the series and its unique glimpse into the cheer world.
Unfortunately, there's only one season of the show for now, but if you're looking for something else to watch that has a similar vibe, you'll definitely want to check out a show called Cheer Squad.
Much like Netflix's Cheer, Cheer Squad follows a group of young hopefuls as they prepare to compete. What sets this series apart though, is that it was filmed in Canada, not the U.S.
The Canadian series follows Ontario's Great White Sharks cheerleading team and debuted on ABC Spark back in 2016. Only one season of the show was made, but the 10 episodes are all available for streaming on Netflix.
If you're a big fan of sports documentaries, you'll also want to check out Basketball or Nothing and Last Chance U on the streaming service.
It's unclear whether Cheer will return for a second season right now, but if the series continues to be so well received, chances are high that Netflix will bring it back.
