Heading out on a safari is all the rage nowadays. Getting to chill in your car and encounter some animals you definitely wouldn't be able to anywhere else seems to be a one-of-a-kind experience. While some safaris are only open on select days, the Cherokee Trace Drive-thru Safari in Jacksonville is open 365 days of the year.
Some of the animals you might encounter on your ride include Aoudad, Canadian Wood Bison, Red Kangaroo, and Llamas. The park has about two dozen exotic and endangered species and the park does its best to closely resemble the animal's natural habitats. Being in your own car allows you to go at your own pace and gives you the time needed to cover the entire 300-acre preserve. You must stay in the car at all times but you're allowed to feed and take plenty of pictures with the animals.
The park is open every day of the year but they suggest you call in advance as the weather sometimes affects their hours of operation. Pets are not allowed in the park for safety reasons but if you happen to take your favorite pup with you, they can stay in the welcome center. Going to the park gives you a chance to see how the animals interact with one another in a habitat that more closely resembles their own instead of a zoo.
Tickets to the drive-thru safari are only $15 for adults. Their summer hours are from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sundays.
