Dallas Is Hosting Its First Ever Pacific Islander Festival This May

Everything familiar to Westerners from the culture of the Pacific Islanders, such as the hula dance, everything tiki or the poke bowl, is just the tip of the iceberg. The cultural heritage of these peoples is more vibrant and varied than we imagine. To get to know it better and celebrate that diversity, the first edition of a Pacific Islander themed festival in Dallas, called the DFW Nesian Festival, is happening next May, and it's a total must-go.

This festival will showcase the cultural manifestations of the Pacific Islanders, including music, traditional dancing, food & drinks, and arts & crafts.

The festivities will take place on May 30, 2020, at the Skyline Ranch in Dallas from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Admission tickets are only $10 if you purchase now.

Leticia Duenas, the organizer of the event, said in exclusivity to Narcity that May being the Asian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month make the date perfect.

"The goal is to educate our fellow locals about Pacific Islanders," said Duenas. That group includes all the people from the islands of Melanesia, Polynesia, and Micronesia.

The main attraction of the festival is the traditional singers and dance groups, but they will also have fun games for all ages, tons of food vendors, and even a pool!

Get ready to have the time of your life while you enjoy an immersive cultural experience

The Pacific Islands communities include Hawaiians, Tongans, Fijians, Samoans, Chamorros, Palauans, Chuukese, Tahitians, and more. That means food, art, and artistic presentations will be quite varied.

Make sure to check some of the vendors that will be selling merch on the premises. Everything will be traditional and one of a kind. Perfect for a unique gift.

**The entertainment is a big part of the festivities. Attendees will enjoy traditional singers like Rose Martinez of Guam.

"We are so excited to have so many dance groups coming through," said Duenas. The lineup so far includes Te Vai Mana, Siva Ori, and Koloa from Polynesia.

This festival is the first of its kind in the metroplex, and Duenas says it is expected to become an annual Dallas celebration.

"Someday, I hope also to include Asia at some point to show our Filipino heritage and all the amazing things Asia has to offer," she said.
