It's no secret that social media has dramatically changed the dating landscape. Seriously, between Snapchat and Instagram, there are 100 different rules and expectations that come with just talking to a guy or girl you're interested in. The days of "do I add them on Facebook first?" seem so simple looking back now.
Though if there is one question that keeps popping up on social media whether it's a post on @beigecardigan or a viral tweet, girls across the globe are seriously stumped on one trend that seems to be happening to everyone. That being, guys who have ghosted girls they previously dated but continue keeping up with their IG stories religiously.
Isn’t it wild how people who ghosted you still watch every single one of your Instagram stories pic.twitter.com/RivdFOfitc— eddie camacho (@eddiecamacho) March 24, 2018
Personally, I'd like to think it's got more to do with guys being bored on the toilet and just watching everybody's stories at once, but the debate is still very much alive. With that in mind, I decided I'd take it upon myself to get the truth straight from the horse's mouth and ask some guys around the city why they still keep up with girls they completely ghosted- I mean, why would you want to keep up with girls you aren't interested in anyway?
I asked all of the guys the same simple question: "If you ghost a girl you had been seeing, why do you keep up with her IG stories? If you don't, why do you think some guys do?"
"Guys miss girls differently than girls miss guys. Girls miss guys actively... like girls will be at home missing a guy. Guys miss girls in passing, like 'oh her story popped up, wasn’t thinking about her at all until now but I’ll check it out'." - Tyler, 20
"I wanna see if she'll message me first." - Justin, 21
"I'm honestly just kind of curious to see how they're doing after I've stopped talking to them." - James, 20
"The reason guys ghost girls yet still watch their story is because guys are curious what those girls are up to, and half the time a guy ghosts a girl, they would still get with them but just not at the time so the guy keeps a tab on her until the moment is right." - Nick, 22
"I want to make sure she knows I'm still semi-interested if I ever want to re-start it what we had before." - Daniel, 23
So, the moral of the story is that they are either just bored or are still kinda (?) interested. Clearly, Instagram stories mean literally nothing to some guys, and to others, viewing your story is part of their ploy to keep you strung along which is a) concerning and b) confusing.
Regardless of the possible intentions, your ex-fling might have, you're probably better off not scouring the list of people who viewed your boomerang video of #drinkswiththegirls for a guy who's "keeping tabs on you." Just post what you want and live your life!
