Coronavirus panic is causing one product, in particular, to become a hot commodity, especially at big box stores. Costco's toilet paper in Canada has been flying off the shelves. Now the store is even putting the in-demand item on sale.
From March 2 to 15, 40 packs of Cashmere Premium 2-ply bathroom tissue are just $15.99, with a savings of five dollars.
This deal is available at Costco locations in Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Nova Scotia.
Residents in the western provinces need not worry, however. In British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba, 40 packs of Purex Premium 2-ply bathroom tissue are on sale for $16.99.
On top of the toilet paper sale, western Canadians can also take advantage of another useful item to have during the outbreak: Scotties Premium 2-ply facial tissues. A case with 15 boxes is $13.49 until March 15.
Preppers who are hunkering down might also be interested in the fact that 48 packs of Duracell AA batteries are also on sale for $21.99.
With so many people rushing to Costco in particular for supplies, the availability of any of these items cannot be guaranteed, although you can order them online if you feel so inclined.
The question that might be on people's minds amid all this panic-buying is why toilet paper seems to be such a high-demand item.
Speaking with The Conversation, Niki Edwards from the School of Public Health and Social Work, Queensland University of Technology said "When people hear about the coronavirus, they are afraid of losing control. And toilet paper feels like a way to maintain control over hygiene and cleanliness."
