There has never been a better time for introverts and homebodies, but even the most dedicated book worm may run out of reading materials soon. If you’re worried about how you’re going to pass the time or get your hands on that new release you’ve been waiting for while you’re stuck at home, there’s good news! Orlando’s Orange County Library system provides e-book and audiobook rentals online, and you can download them to your devices right now.
If you have an Orange County Library card ID, there’s no cost to downloading an e-book. From classics to new releases, you simply check it out online and enjoy from the comfort of your own home.
All you have to do is log in with your library card number and PIN to start browsing their selections. There are a few different vendors to browse through, so if one of them doesn’t have the title you’re hunting for right now, another might.
You can find the selection of e-book and audiobook providers on the library's website, each provider having different rental period lengths. CloudLibrary, for example, has a 7-day checkout, while Freading has checkouts as long as two-weeks.
There may be a waiting period for some titles though, even if they are digital. In that case, you can sometimes place a hold for a few days.
Whichever provider you end up going with, you can download their corresponding app to your smartphone, laptop, or tablet, and get to reading immediately.
With collections spanning fiction and non-fiction, and over 50 subject categories, you’ll have plenty to keep you occupied.
The best part about e-book rentals is you don’t have to worry about being late on your return. Once the checkout period runs out, the book is automatically “returned” to the library collection.
