What The Cast Of "Degrassi: The Next Generation" Are Up To In 2020

The Degrassi series has influenced multiple generations over the years since it’s premiere back in 1979. It’s constantly been able to adapt in order to reflect society all the way up until 2016. However, this Degrassi spinoff had an ensemble of actors that have influenced the entertainment industry beyond just their time on the show. Degrassi: The Next Generation cast in 2020 are still successful in their careers even more than a decade later.

Whether it be in acting, singing, or even YouTube content creation, these former stars are still pursuing their passions.

They even reconnected for fellow castmate Drake’s music video for his song “I’m Upset” back in 2018. It featured them reuniting on set of their old stomping grounds.

Shane Kippel

Kippel worked as Gavin “Spinner” Mason on the teen show as the bully who saw a lot of growth throughout the seasons. Since his departure from the series, Kippel has remained in the entertainment industry experimenting a lot with his music.

Acting-wise, according to IMDb, the Canadian has starred in a few guest roles on smaller television series and even made an appearance on Degrassi: The Next Class. His active Instagram also promotes his own personal YouTube channel and Cameo account.

Adamo Ruggiero

Ruggiero, or as fans would remember him, Marco Del Rossi, worked as not only a student at Degrassi High but returned as a teacher at the high school. Like many other Degrassi Alumni, Ruggiero has guest-starred on multiple TV shows like Saving Hope, IMDb claims.

Stacey Farber

Stacey Farber spent 7 years on Degrassi where she played Ellie Nash, a high school journalist.

Since 2008, IMDb states that the Canadian actress has guest-starred on many hit shows like Saving Hope, Grace and Frankie, and Animal Kingdom.

She also played a role on Schitt’s Creek, the comedy her best friend Dan Levy co-created.

Drake

Before Drake was Drake he was Aubrey Graham, the teen who played Jimmy Brooks on Degrassi. Brooks was an artist and a basketball star who had his life altered during season 4 of the show when he ended up paralyzed in a wheelchair.

Since his acting debut, Drake has gone on to become a global celebrity and the iconic 6ix god. He currently has multiple Grammy awards, holds the record for having 99 songs reach the top 40 of the Billboard charts, and still dabbles in the acting business with his executive roles in Euphoria and Top Boy.

Nina Dobrev

Nina Dobrev, like Drake, has made it all the way up the ladder to international fame.

After retiring from her character Mia Jones, she was cast in the hit drama The Vampire Diaries as Elena Gilbert.

According to IMDb, she’s also starred in blockbuster movies like The Perks of Being a Wallflower, alongside Emma Watson, and Flatliners.

Lauren Collins

Lauren Collins played your typical, fictional high school teenager Paige Michalchuk. She also reprised her role on Degrassi: The Next Class years later.

Her character on the teen show also led her to have a role on YouTuber Shane Dawson’s series Shane Dawson TV.

More recently the 33-year-old actress has worked in series like Impulse, Murdoch Mysteries, and worked on the hit Netflix film Christmas Chronicles.

Jake Epstein

Epstein originally portrayed Craig Manning, Degrassi’s musical protege. Now in real life, he’s a hit broadway star. He’s worked in Tony Award-winning shows like Beautiful and Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark.

He also hasn’t completely left television acting behind. He’s guest-starred in episodes of Designated Survivor and Suits, alongside Meghan Markle, according to his Twitter.

Cassie Steele

Cassie Steele, also known as Manny Santos, could potentially become the next Disney star.

Raya and the Last Dragon, being released by Disney, also stars Awkwafina and is set to hit theatres in November of 2020, EW reports.

She’s also gained experience voice acting on the hit show Rick and Morty.

Miriam McDonald

Emma Nelson, Manny Santos’ childhood best friend, also appeared in Degrassi Takes Manhattan and returned for an episode of Degrassi: Next Class.

According to IMDb, apart from the Degrassi franchise, McDonald guest-starred in series like Orphan Black and made an appearance in a classic Christmas Hallmark movie A Veteran’s Christmas.

If you're planning on having some friends over and you're living in the Durham Region (which is anywhere from Pickering to Whitby) there are some new rules that you now need to follow.

As of September 11 at 12:01 a.m., anyone who hosts a social gathering in the area — from homeowners, tenants, owners, and business operators — must conduct contract tracing of everyone who comes over. This means having a complete list of names and contact information of everyone who comes over (no matter how old they are) and holding onto that information for at least a month.

An incoming spike in Ontario gas prices is sure to put a damper on anyone's plans to take one last road trip this summer.
