Next month, Campus Martius in Downtown Detroit is going to be transformed into a celebration of winter for a weekend packed with things to do. This isn't your typical carnival, but a total transformation of the area. There will be so many things to do and the best part is that admission is totally free!
There are a few events that cost money, but taking in the energy of the festival-goers and hanging out with friends won't cost you anything.
You'll head downtown like you do every other weekend, but this time you'll be transported into a winter wonderland.
They're bringing in slides, decorations, performers, and more.
The event will be held on February 7 - 9. On Friday, February 9, the event is going on from 5 p.m. - 11 p.m., 11 a.m. - 11 p.m. on Saturday, and 11 a.m. - 8 p.m. on Sunday, February 9.
Food Truck Rally
Why You Need To Go: Talk about dinner and a show! You can pick up pretty much anything you're craving at one of the twelve food trucks and then walk around and see everything else that the festival has to offer.
Why You Need To Go: They've brought in snowmakers that will transform Campus Martius into a ski hill. You can learn how to feel confident on a snowboard or skis here.
Why You Need To Go: There will be a range of bands performing a ton of different genres including blues, rock, and pop. There will also be DJ's affiliated with the Movement Festival that will be playing House and Techno music.
There will also be circus performers and dancers performing.
Price: $10 for a ride
Why You Need To Go: I bet you wouldn't have thought that you'd be flying over downtown Detroit any time soon, but this weekend you can.
Ice Sculpture Garden
Why You Need To Go: There will be live ice carving demonstrations of some of Detroit's most iconic images and landmarks.
Watch An Olympic Gold Medalist Skate
Price: $25 for a ticket
Why You Need To Go: Meryl Davis is a University of Michigan graduate and she's coming back to the mitten to perform with some other local people of note.
Why You Need To Go: If you need a rush of excitement to wake you up take a ride down one of these 30-foot slides.
Price: $3 for a s'mores kit
Why You Need To Go: What could be a better treat to warm you up on a winter day? This gooey chocolate and marshmallow will warm you up almost as much as that fire pit.
Free Ice Skating
Price: You can skate for free if you have your own skates. Skates are available to rent for only $5.
Why You Need To Go: This festival is jam-packed with activities, but the true center of all the action. You can skate leisurely around with your friends and make some new memories.
