Sometimes you walk into a restaurant and can just feel the awkward straining of politeness from the staff. The air is thick with it, the forced manners and questions as soon as you take a bite — suddenly you don’t know what to do with your hands. What if there was a place where you could walk in and not only were the staff relaxed, but they were almost a little rude? And by a little, we mean a lot. Welcome to Dick’s Last Resort, where they ask you to take a seat (or don’t, they don’t care) and an insulting hat will be assigned to you shortly.
Socially unacceptable is the name of the game at Dick’s, so it’s a perfect place for those with a sense of humor and thick skin. The staff is intentionally trained to be obnoxious, and patrons are often put in slightly uncomfortable situations that will simultaneously make you laugh.
Expect to be insulted, wear giant paper hats with rude (but also hilarious) comments on them, and have napkins thrown at you. A generally delightful dining experience, right?
The founder, Dick Chase, first came up with the concept in 1985 when a fine dining establishment turned out to be a complete bust.
Burnt out, but not discouraged, Dick decided to step away from the upscale scene and “go sloppy.”
But "sloppy" isn't synonymous with a bad dining experience. Aside from service you’ll never forget, Dick’s is known for their hearty Southern fare.
The menu feature's some seriously succulent options made from scratch, including ribs, buttery crab legs, sandwiches, salads, desserts and more.
Dick is also featured on souvenirs at the restaurant, like the super classy “Real Women Love Dick’s” t-shirts and “I Love Dick’s” bumper stickers.
While the Dick’s location in Orlando closed abruptly in 2016, their Panama City Beach location is still open, and we definitely think it might just be worth the trip.
