Doug Ford Just Announced That He's Lowering Gas Prices In Ontario, Here's How Much Less You'll Be Paying

In an official statement by the Government of Ontario this morning, Premier Doug Ford announced that he plans to go through with the initial promises that he made during his campaign to "put money back in people's pockets." Starting with the one thing that many of us would love to start paying less for - gas.

Ford says that his first major move as Premier is to put an end to the cap-and-trade carbon tax era in Ontario, which tacks on extra fees at the pump, home heating bills, and "virtually every other product that you buy," Ford claims.

According to Ontario's Auditor General, the cap-and-trade system is costing Ontario residents and businesses $8 billion annually, with a "negligible impact" on the province's carbon emissions, which is the whole purpose of the system.

By scrapping the carbon tax, Ontarians can expect to start paying significantly less for gas. To be exact, Ford promises to cut gas costs by 10 cents a litre.

Just two months ago, gas prices in Ontario hit a record high, at an average of $1.37 per litre. Today, the provincial average sits at $1.32. With an extra 10 cents off, your total at the pump won't be nearly as destructive to your bank account as it was in the spring.

According to Premier Ford, "cap-and-trade and carbon tax schemes are no more than government cash grabs that do nothing for the environment, while hitting people in the wallet in order to fund big government programs."

By getting Ontario out of the carbon tax business, Ford claims that taxpayers across the province will breathe a sigh of relief. "Our focus will be to give people lower gas prices, lower energy bills and a real break in their wallets in order to get our economy going and create jobs. Help is here."
