If you're a big fan of hip hop and rap music, you're probably aware that two pretty big festivals were happening over the weekend — Travis Scott's Astroworld Fest, and Tyler, the Creator's Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival. Overall, it seems that both festivals went over pretty well, except for the headlining performance at Flog Gnaw on Sunday night, that is. Drake's Camp Flog Gnaw reaction shows that he's not phased by the hate.
If you're not familiar with the situation, we'll catch you up. Essentially, the lineup at Flog Gnaw was stacked with amazing artists, but one mystery headliner still remained, and because of his close ties with Tyler, people assumed that it was Frank Ocean.
Patrons of the festival camped out at the barricades all day, and those who couldn't make it to the show eagerly awaited word of Frank's performance on the Twitch live stream. Frank very rarely performs live, so his show would be a once in a lifetime opportunity.
Keep in mind that Tyler never addressed these Frank rumours, so a performance from the Channel Orange visionary was never guaranteed. At the end of the night, when the time finally arrived, Tyler brought out A$AP Rocky and Lil Uzi Vert and then told fans he had one more surprise in store.
The crowd was expecting Frank to come out on stage, but instead, they were totally taken aback when Canadian rapper Drake came out on stage.
While some people in the crowd were obviously excited to see someone so talented, a lot of people at the barricades were booing Drake, verbally letting him know that his performance wasn't being appreciated.
Sensing the hostility, Drake ended his set early, concluding the festival with no sign of Frank Ocean anywhere in the vicinity.
Dealing with a crowd like that would take a hit on anyone's ego, but it seems like Drake is taking it pretty well. "Plot twist...just signed a 10 year residency at Camp Flog Gnaw sorry kids see you EVERY SINGLE YEAR till you are 30 🤪," the rapper captioned his latest Instagram photo.
All jokes aside, Tyler was super unimpressed with his fans and the Flog Gnaw crowd that disrespected Drake. "THAT SHIT WAS LIKE MOB MENTALITY AND CANCEL CULTURE IN REAL LIFE AND I THINK THAT SHIT IS F*CKING TRASH," he tweeted on Monday.
THAT SHIT WAS LIKE MOB MENTALITY AND CANCEL CULTURE IN REAL LIFE AND I THINK THAT SHIT IS FUCKING TRASH— Tyler, The Creator (@Tyler, The Creator)1573494384.0
Apart from the mess that was Drake's performance, Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival was definitely one for the books. Hopefully, the crowd is better prepared for Drake's show over the next 10 years.
